Moving to Florida from Out of State? Here’s What Modern Home Builders and New Houses Have to Offer You

Moving can be stressful for any family, especially if they happen to be headed to a new neighborhood. However, this experience can also be rewarding. Families who choose new homes in master planned communities may find that they have more space and better landscape features than they would in a resale or a rental home.

But what do you do when you’re moving across state lines? Searching for a resale home is one thing, but what do you do if you’re looking to buy (or build) new? If you’re wondering about working with a home builder in Florida before moving from out of state, here are some things you can expect when you choose one of Florida’s modern homes:

  • Explore the cost advantages of moving to Florida. Believe it or not, living in Florida can actually come with a number of tax advantages. For one thing, Florida is one of just seven states that doesn’t collect state income taxes, so if you’re not coming from Alaska, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, or Wyoming, then you’ll be seeing this benefit for the very first time. Someone moving from a high-tax state like New York may save thousands or even millions if they fall into a higher income tax bracket. Floridians also don’t have to pay property tax on the first $50,000 of value on their primary “homestead” residences; school district taxes exempt the first $25,000 of your property value, for extra savings. Depending upon the area you choose, you may even get more bang for your buck with the local real estate market for a new home.
  • Remember that you’re moving to a different climate. If you’re from a northern state, you may not have had central air conditioning in your house before, even though a National Association of REALTORS survey revealed that 65% of home buyers rated this amenity as “very important.” Not having central air may be bearable in Maine, Massachusetts, or Minnesota, but in Florida, A/C is a must-have. Temperatures can climb into the 90s or higher in the summer, so it’s crucial to cool your home as best as you can. Virtually all modern home builders in Florida will include central air conditioning, as it’s more necessity than an optional amenity here.
  • Don’t forget to look at the other necessities for your home. However, air conditioning isn’t the only necessity in Florida’s homes: storage, space, and appliances were top priorities for new home buyers, according to a 2013 survey, which also revealed that 89% of buyers that year chose a house with a laundry room.
