What Are Young People Looking For In Homes: Part 2

January 2, 2018

If you’re still having trouble identifying what millennials are searching for in a home, or you’re a young person yourself and want to find out more about what your peers are looking for when it comes to property, hopefully the rest of this list will help. You already read about young people wanting to live near good green spaces, have plenty of fun things to do, and having smart appliances throughout their homes, but there are a few other important things they are looking for.

Here are some additional factors that millennial homebuyers are searching for in 2018:

They want to improve the environment

If there is one positive assumption out there about this young generation, it’s that they do, in fact, care about the environment. That’s why they are searching for homes with high quality, energy-efficient appliances so they can do their part. They’d also like to live in cities and states that are innovative when it comes to environmental issues, and not behind the times.

They want newly-built homes

Though two in five Americans — roughly 41% of the American population — either somewhat prefer or strongly prefer a newly-built home to an existing one, young people are certainly leaning towards buying new as well. This young generation of homebuyers isn’t after gigantic houses, however, they would like their own home that was built just for them. That’s why they are searching for quality new home builders to work with so they can live in their custom new properties.

They want a nice yard

For some reason, there is another incorrect assumption about millennials when it comes to having a yard. People think, for whatever reason, that millennials would rather live in a small box and just text their lives away. That’s not true at all. According to a new survey by Harris Poll for the National Association of Landscape Professionals conducted among 23,034 U.S. adults over the age of 18, 75% of Americans feel that it’s important to spend time outside in their yards. Additionally, 83% of Americans think having a yard is important and 90% of those with a yard on their property believe it’s important to keep it well-maintained.

Hopefully these two guides helped you better understand exactly what the millennial generation is looking for in a home. If you are ready to make this big jump and are starting to think about buying a new home, contact Connerton today to get started. Good luck and enjoy your new home!
